A Tar Roof is an out dated system and therefore it is not installed onto many buildings anymore. If your old roof is made of tar and gravel, it is a matter of time before they will need to be replaced. Hydro Stop is a great material to install onto your roof system after you have removed the old tar. Should you wait for the old roof to leak? I would say absolutely not. Roofing shingles prices have been escalating with the rise of gasoline. Asphalt comes from refined oil which means as the price of oil rises so does the cost of shingles. Many roofing contractors have advised homeowners that they can get a metal roof system just as cheap which last upwards of 80 years. Today’s market is unstable when considering a new roof system. Be sure to consider a metal roof which is cheaper than an asphalt roof. GAF shingles may be on sale come the winter season. Good luck in getting a new roof.

Your roof vents are the lifeblood of your roof system. If you have poor ventilation, your roof system will fail prematurely. The sun will cause the ceramic granules to break free of the tar matting. This causes the shingles to become porous and will begin to leak over a period of time. Do not fall suspect to poor roof ventilation. Have a contractor to look at your present ventilation system. Owens Corning has a great solution for roof ventilation problems. Be sure to use the horizontal style for it works more efficiently.

Go into the attic and take a flashlight and look for water stains and markings. These will be visible to the eye. The noticeable for they will have a foul odor as well. Slate shingles have been used for many years. They are not used as much these days due to their high maintenance and expensive cost for installation. There is no shingle on the market today which will last longer than a Slate tile. The Slate roof itself is made of stone which can last upwards of 200 years. There are castles in England that are over 500 years so which have the original tile roof installed.

There are many contractors today who are unfamiliar with the installation of Slate tiles. This appears to be a lost art. The roofing companies that do install Slate tiles are very expensive. Many of the companies today will not even dare attempt the installation of a stone roof. So, with all that being said you may want to consider and asphalt roof for your home.

The cost of roofing continues to rise each and every month due to the cost of petroleum.The shingles are made from asphalt which is furnished by OPEC. The shingle manufacturers keep passing on the cost to the roofing contractor passes it on to the customer. We have tried many times to correct the cost of price gouging. There is very little relief now that the cost of the roofing material is in OPEC’s hands. we will continue to provide roofing services at a great value, but the cost of material will surely increase the cost of the complete roof installation.

There are companies that are inventing shingles that are made from polymers. Hopefully this will give us an alternative to the asphalt shingle as we know it today. No one can be for sure, but we should see the new shingles in the next five years. Although Home Depot has denied any involvement with the new shingle Corporation’s production of the polymer shingle, we hope that they are for cost of roof installations will be lowered.
